Search the Internet and benefit Harrow!

The Harrow Development Trust has formed a partnership, through an agent, with the international search engine Yahoo!. The arrangement allows Harrow to earn an average of 5p per search at no cost to the School, or to the person doing the browsing. One person could, it is estimated, generate an annual income of about £30 for Harrow School, just by searching the Internet using the search box in the top righthand of their Internet Explorer toolbar. >>more

Raising money for Harrow could not be easier than this! To install the Harrow School search box go to http://admin.whitedotbox.com/myhomepage.asp?OrgID=1195 and click on the Add Browser Box button. It takes about two clicks and thirty seconds to do!

Elmfield are Three Yards Fund Cock House

The Three Yards Fund, through which Old Harrovians can make regular monthly or annual donations over a number of years (some donors have signed up for five, ten and even thirty years), has now passed £733,000 in total value. Proceeds go annually towards improvement projects in the donor’s House, to support bursary funding for pupils going into the House, or to accelerate schoolwide programmes involving all the Houses, such as providing new IT. The target is to reach £1,000,000 before the end of 2008. Leading the House table for contributions are Elmfield, Rendalls and The Head Master’s, with Newlands and The Park lying in mid-table. >>more

Development Projects Update

Pasmore Gallery opens in Art Schools

Phase One of the development of the Art Schools was completed over the summer with the development of the Leaf Schools into new studios and a gallery. In the second phase of the development, it was decided it would be better for teaching purposes to move the Gallery to the Art Schools themselves. The Leaf Gallery has now become a beautiful painting studio and the first floor of the Art Schools holds the exhibition space. It has been named the Pasmore Gallery after the illustrious Old Harrovian, Victor Pasmore, artist and architect.

It has as much display space as the Leaf Gallery but has the advantage of being in one of the most stunning buildings on the Hill. This has also been entirely refurbished and the ‘grand design’ is a visual treat for all who see it. The third phase, which is to be the building of new sculpture studios beside the Leaf Schools, is eagerly awaited.

Twelfth boarding house moves up priority list as start date looms

Planning permission for the twelfth boarding house project was granted by the local authority in the spring. The new House
remains the School’s leading development priority and funding applications have continued. The Director of the Harrow
Development Trust is confident that sufficient funding will be in place for the Governors to give their consent for building to start when they meet in the autumn. If this stage is reached, building work will start in January 2009 and the House will open in September 2010. If it is not reached the project will be delayed by at least a year.
